SYNTHETIC CORUNDUM

This material is produced by the flame-fusion (Verneuil) method which forms the synthetic corundum into boules. The boules are split to remove strain in the crystal. Size range of split boules approximately 100-175 carats.
HARDNESS: 9 REFRACTIVE INDEX: 1.76 -1.77
CUTTING ANGLES: PAVILION- 42 CROWN- 40
POLISHING RECOMMENDATIONS: Ceramic lap or BATT lap with 50,000 diamond. Some faceters prefer the Crystalite Last lap with 50,000 diamond. A final light "kiss" with aluminum oxide (Ultralap or Linde A) is often used after the diamond to give the gem it's best polish.
